Leo and His New Puppy, Spot

A happy young boy petting his new puppy outdoors.

The Main Reading Text

Leo was very excited. His family was going to get a new puppy today! On the way to the pet shop, his dad said, "Leo, when you have a puppy, you will need to be very responsible. It is a big job."

At the shop, Leo looked at all the puppies. He saw a small brown puppy in a corner and watched the little puppy chase its own tail. It was very funny! Then, from another corner, he heard a little puppy barking softly. It was a black puppy with white spots. Leo knew that was the one for him. He named him Spot.

When Leo got home, he immediately took Spot to the yard to play. Leo's mom looked out the window. She saw Leo throw a small red ball, and she smiled, happy to see her son so full of joy.

That night, Leo was tired but very happy. He listened to Spot breathing gently in his new bed. Taking care of a puppy was a lot of work, but it was also a lot of fun. He knew he and Spot would be the best of friends.
