The Main Reading Text

Earth is often called the "Blue Planet" because more than 70% of its surface is covered by water. While we live on land, it is the vast oceans that connect us all.

There are seven continents on Earth. Asia is the largest and most populated continent, home to more than half of the world's people. To its west lies Europe, and to its south is Africa, known for its incredible wildlife. In the west, North and South America are joined together, while Antarctica remains the coldest place at the bottom of the world. Finally, Oceania is the smallest continent, famous for its beautiful islands.

Surrounding these lands are five major oceans. The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest ocean, covering more than one-third of the Earth. The Atlantic Ocean is the second-largest, separating the Americas from Europe and Africa. The Indian Ocean is located between Africa and Australia, while the Southern Ocean circles Antarctica. At the very north, the Arctic Ocean is the smallest and shallowest of all. Understanding our geography helps us appreciate the diverse beauty of our home.
