The Main Reading Text

Coffee is a popular drink that many people love for its taste and the way it makes them feel awake and full of energy. But do you know where it comes from? The coffee we drink starts its journey as a seed inside a red fruit called a coffee cherry. These cherries grow on plants in countries with warm weather.

To get the coffee beans, people pick the red cherries and take out the green beans inside. The beans are then washed and dried in the sun. The magic happens during roasting, which is when the beans are cooked in very hot air. Roasting turns the beans brown and gives them their wonderful smell and delicious taste. After that, the roasted beans are ground into a powder. To make a cup of coffee, hot water is passed through this ground coffee.

A famous legend says that coffee was discovered long ago in Ethiopia by a goat herder named Kaldi. He noticed his goats became very energetic after eating red berries from a tree! He tried the berries himself and also felt more awake. Today, this amazing drink is grown in many parts of the world and is enjoyed by millions of people every day.
